After reading yesterday that President Jacob Zuma has agreed to pay back the money that was used for the upgrade of his property in Nkandla, I shared on social media that constitutional democracy should not be underestimated because it works. Zuma’s change of heart is good for the economy. According to Steven Friendman, director of the Institute for Democracy, “If correctly analysed pres. Jacob Zuma’s about-turn about paying for the upgrades at his Nkandla homestead should boost investor confidence… It should give investors comfort that a politician cannot do whatever he wants.”
Friendman also said that what EFF could not achieve through its noise and disruptions in parliament, the legal system however did.
