I visited Kerry APMEA-SSA (a multinational food company into food ingredients and flavor manufacturing) with few of our undergraduate and postgraduate students not too long ago. The purpose of the visit was to show the students the company’s well equipped and automated flavor labs in addition to their other product development labs. The visit also provided an opportunity for SAAFoST (the Association for Food Scientists, Technologists and other Professionals serving the food and allied industries in South Africa), KZN branch to reach out to students interested to participate in My SAAFoST initiative specifically developed for students and young professionals. The two Kerry managers and also SAAFoST KZN committee members who hosted us said many things while advising the students, but ‘don’t fly under the radar’ emphasized by the two managers has been on my mind. I totally agree with the managers’ advice because we shouldn’t live without being noticed in our community or work place. We should get noticed for excellence. We are the light of the world and a city that is set on a hill. We should reject every form of fear or timidity and aim higher with clarity of purpose to execute our goals. Absolutely, we shouldn’t have an attitude of braggadocio but we should let our gifts, blessings and accomplishments point directly and indirectly to God as our benefactor.
Do have a great week ahead. Don’t fly under the radar. Be visionary. Shine.
