We can pray from now till tomorrow but without watching, we allow the enemy to take advantage of us. However we receive strength to overcome when we combine watching with praying. Scripture says “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” Watching is not often seen as important as praying. You just try to google ‘praying’. You will see articles such as prayers for beginners, prayer and the difference it makes, what is prayer –all about prayer, the correct way to pray etc. Then try to do the same thing with ‘watching’. You won’t see useful articles apart from definitions. The truth is that we are told how to pray but not how to watch. But watching is paramount. It is walking in wisdom and applying the Word of God. It involves allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us. The most useful message on watching that I have ever listened to was from Pastor W.F. Kumuyi many years ago. Using an acronym W.A.T.C.H, the respected preacher, explained the importance of watching our words, actions, thoughts, character and habits. We need more of such teachings.
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” ~ Jesus Christ.
