Mogoeng Thomas Reetsang Mogoeng is Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, a position he has held since 2011. Before coming a judge of the Constitutional Court in 2009, he was Judge President of North West High Court (2002-2009), Judge of Labour Appeal Court (2000-2002) and Judge of North West High Court (1997).
Mogoeng is a Christian who is not afraid to talk about his faith in public. He once said “I am one of those believers who believe that there is God and God does speak”
His ruling today found that President Jacob Zuma did not uphold, defend and respect the Constitution as the supreme law of South Africa when he failed to comply with the Public Protector’s remedial order , that he must repay tax payer cash spent on non-security upgrades at his private home. His ruling could lay the foundation for a possible impeachment of Zuma or a recall by his party.
