In the Potter’s Hand, Gretchen Quie and Karen Matison Hess shared a story of a potter who had tried for years to make a perfect lid for a pot, one that was handsome, fit exactly, was easily held, and was not too heavy or too fragile. But she never quite achieved it. She agonized in her search for perfection. Then someone gave her a very expensive, very old Korean pot, a revered piece of folk art, a genuine treasure. She saw that its cover didn’t quite fit, that even the glaze had imperfections, with a tiny piece of another pot adhering to it. But what character it had! The cover felt so good in her hands. Made by a long-since forgotten craftsman hundreds of years ago, it had been used for centuries, yet survived intact. And although it was not perfect, she loved this treasure… Like the craftsman made this Korean pot, God, the Great Potter made us to be a treasure and a master piece. He is not finished with us yet. He is changing us from glory to glory. This week let’s determine to be flexible and yielded as a clay in God’s Hands so He can bring us to the centre and then mould us into a life the Master can use for every good work. May God fill our empty vessels with His spirit so that the love of Jesus Christ will overflow from us.
