The Holy Spirit is always working to turn our eyes from ourselves to Jesus. But Satan’s work is just the opposite: he is always trying to get us to think of ourselves instead of Christ. The Holy Spirit turns our eyes entirely away from self.
Remember, it is not your hold on Christ that saves you – it is Christ. So don’t look at your own hand trying to grasp Christ. Look to Christ. Don’t look to your own hope, but to Jesus, the source of your hope. Don’t look at your faith, but to Jesus, the “author and perfecter of our faith.”
It is what Jesus is, not what we are, that gives rest to the soul. Don’t let your hopes and fears come between you and Jesus. Follow Him closely, and He will never fail you.
