‘As fit as Christ’

‘As fit as Christ’

Have you ever wondered how Jesus looked when he was on earth? It is difficult to predict his height or weight. However, one thing I am sure of is that Jesus Christ was fit. Someone that wasn’t fit, couldn’t have taken a pile of stone or a pile of wooden logs, and after hundreds hours of painful labour create something meaningful e.g a house, boat, a wooden bench or any other product from His carpentry business. Also like many in his day, He had a well-developed body that made him to accomplish long walks with ease. He routinely walked from His home in Galilee to Jerusalem – a distance of about 193 km! Over the course of His ministry, He must have walked thousands of kilometres. Think of that and be intentional about making physical exercise a part of your daily routine. Apart from caloric restriction, exercise is a magic bullet to losing weight, looking our best and improving our health. Personally, I love walking and running everyday. Running or brisk walking is probably the cheapest, quickest, the most invigorating and, for many, the most enjoyable way to get and stay fit. Running (or brisk walking) for me has a twofold purpose. It is a stress reliever and it is also an opportunity for me to meditate and spend time in prayer.

Below is the YouTube video of my conversation with Prof Eric Amonsou of Durban University of Technology, South Africa about the role of diet and exercise in management of obesity and overweight. Find time to watch if you have not done so.
