My friend, Dr Larinde Ojomo recently asked whether humans can live past 150 years. He also shared an image of current research to increase lifespan. Earlier before receiving his message, I had read of Brian Armstrong’s (Coinbase’s founder) $200,000 donation for a Rapamycin study to increase lifespan in dogs by 9%. The researchers conducting the research aim to carry out similar study in humans if successful in dogs. Other billionaires that are also funding research to prolong human life include Jeff Bezos and Larry Page, co-founder of Google. Jeff the world’s richest person, who recently stepped down as CEO of Amazon in July is investing in Altos Labs, a company using biological reprogramming technology to rejuvenate cells in the lab. Larry on the other hand started Calico Labs whose focus is also reprogramming. Back to my friend’s question. Can we live past 150 years? Personally, I don’t think so. Also, according to researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York “the upper limit to our longevity isn’t about our health, it’s about how we’re built.” Our bodies and organs don’t function as efficiently with time. The researchers also said even if people make it to age 110, the body system grows too flawed to function. No medical advances can therefore help people live longer than ever. However, I do believe people will only live past 150 during the millennial reign of Christ. Thank God for the gift of eternal life which is far better than increase in lifespan by 10 or even 50%. But how do we get eternal life? Jesus tells us clearly in the Scripture – by knowing God the Father Himself through His Son, Jesus Christ. Eternal life requires entering into a personal relationship with God in Jesus Christ.
