This morning, I enjoyed a fantastic breakfast at Keys Cafe with James S. Ballentine. Over our meal, James expressed genuine interest in getting to know me better and hearing my story. My initial meeting with James occurred during my visit to the United States last month. A devoted follower of Christ and an attorney at law, James and I engaged in meaningful discussions about our careers, faith, and aspirations. Our conversation was not only refreshing but also served as a reminder of the significance of finding like-minded Christian friends when settling into a new community.
More about Jim:
Jim Ballentine’s diverse career journey showcases his deep dedication to advocating for those who have been injured. Born to a minister in Minneapolis and raised in Minnesota, Jim’s path has been unique. After earning his college degree in 1970, he pursued seminary studies and graduated in 1974. Moving to Connecticut with his wife Marva, Jim served as an associate pastor before later pastoring a church in Massachusetts.
Through his ministry experience, Jim gained valuable insights into aiding people dealing with familial issues, personal struggles, and mortality. He recognized that effective assistance often required a collaboration of professionals. This understanding led him to enroll at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.
During law school, Jim’s passion for advocacy was evident as he participated in the trial advocacy program. In his third year, he excelled, winning the regional Association of Trial Lawyers of America Trial Competition and achieving sixth place nationally. Jim’s conviction in his ability to help people through courtroom advocacy grew.
Simultaneously, Jim worked full-time during law school, enhancing his skills as an editor at a legal publishing house and contributing to the William Mitchell Law Review. He gained practical experience as a law clerk in prominent plaintiffs’ personal injury firms, including Schwebel, Goetz & Sieben.
Jim’s enthusiasm for counseling people and constructing legal strategies to secure their success is apparent. He takes immense pride in his work, viewing it as a significant honor.
