Don’t be afraid to risk your reputation for Jesus

Don’t be afraid to risk your reputation for Jesus

We are called to follow Nicodemus' example by wisely speaking up for Jesus, regardless of the potential persecution we may face for our beliefs.

In John chapter 7, verses 50 to 52, we witness a remarkable transformation in Nicodemus, the Pharisee who initially sought out Jesus under the cover of night (Chapter 3). Nicodemus, despite being surrounded by Pharisees who despised Jesus and sought His demise, chose to become a secret believer. Although he expressed his support for Jesus indirectly, his statement was bold, immediately arousing suspicion among the Pharisees.

Even after Jesus’ crucifixion, Nicodemus displayed his devotion by bringing spices for His body (John 19:39). This marked the final mention of Nicodemus in Scripture. However, according to tradition, he later underwent baptism by Peter and John but faced the consequence of stepping down from his esteemed position within the Council.

This account of Nicodemus challenges us to examine our own lives and consider the importance of boldly identifying with Jesus, even in situations or platforms where sharing our faith may not be the norm. We are called to follow Nicodemus’ example by wisely speaking up for Jesus, regardless of the potential persecution we may face for our beliefs.
