Don’t put a limit on what you can achieve

I had a limit on what I wanted to achieve. Many of us are like that. We are not too ambitious and we are easily satisfied. But sometimes, God wants something more for us. He wants us to aim higher, dream bigger and achieve more.

Publishing a text book was not what I wanted do, so when De Gruyter, a publishing company in Germany contacted me late 2018 to publish a Food Science and Technology text book for them, my response was not what they were expecting to get.

Apart from publishing research articles and book chapters, my desire is to publish inspirational books. So, I asked De Gruyter about publishing my inspirational book but they told me they only publish text books. They however would not give up easily about me publishing for them. They even suggested how it will be easier for me to accomplish it.

Eventually I accepted, came up with the title, the table of content and after about 1 year of going through the challenges involved in editing a book of this nature, the book was ready for production process. Why didn’t I think I should publish a textbook before I was contacted by De Gruyter?

I had a limit on what I wanted to achieve. Many of us are like that. We are not too ambitious and we are easily satisfied. But sometimes, God wants something more for us. He wants us to aim higher, dream bigger and achieve more.

I recently shared on Facebook about Aramide Akintimehin who raised $68000 through crowd funding for her Harvard University Masters of Education fees. Aramide, a very passionate believer in education for the underprivileged and founder of talent mine academy that provides education to out of school children refused to put a limit on what she can achieve. She was determined to attend the best University in the world to access the knowledge, expertise and network to scale her talent mine academy in low income communities and give children opportunity for free quality education.

Raising $68000 in the middle of a global pandemic is not a joke but she did it anyway because she dared not to set a limit for herself. So, I encourage you today, don’t put a limit on what you can achieve. If a thought about you achieving an amazing feat that you don’t even know how it will be possible comes to your mind, don’t discard the thought, just tell yourself “with God’s help I can achieve this.”

“If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later” Richard Branson
