Keeping Christ first in our lives can be very difficult when we have so many distractions trying to undermine our relationship with Him. When we are not intentional about spending quality time with Christ, we become distracted like the Biblical Martha. Martha’s distractions were numerous household chores she had to perform for her guests. Notice what Jesus told her (Luke 10:41-42 TPT): “…Martha, my beloved Martha. Why are you upset and troubled, pulled away by all these many distractions? Are they really that important? Mary has discovered the one thing most important by choosing to sit at my feet. She is undistracted, and I won’t take this privilege from her.” Unlike her, Mary prioritized time spent with Christ above any other thing. We should continuously examine our lives to ensure we have not lost our focus and that Our Lord is still the first in our lives. And if we find out we have allowed distractions to threaten our devotion to Christ, we should repent. Charles Spurgeon wrote “Tell me where you lost track of Christ, and I will tell you where you will probably find Him. Did you lose Him in the prayer closet by neglecting regular prayer? Then that is where you should look for Him. Did you lose Christ when you turned to sin? Then find Him by giving up the sin. Did you lose Christ by neglecting the Scriptures? Then find Him in the Scriptures. Look for Christ where you lost Him. He has not gone away.”
“I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.” Martin Luther
