How often do you read the Book of Revelation? Read it often. There is a blessing attached to reading and putting its principles into practice. And when you read it don’t get bogged down in all the details of the awesome visions revealed to Apostle John instead focus on the all-encompassing theme in all the visions i.e., the ultimate victory of Jesus Christ over evil. One of the chapters that I have been thinking about since the last time I read the Book that is also referred to as the Apocalypse of John is the chapter that shows the complete destruction of Babylon, a metaphorical name for the Satan’s evil world system and all it represents. This world system consists of “philosophies and values that perpetually influence humanity to think and behave contrary to God and His Word.” It was this world that John warned us not to love in his earlier book (1 John). But how can we keep away from the world’s evil system even though we live in it? Here are some suggestions that I came across:
1. We should be determined to live according to the values Christ exemplified: service, giving, self-sacrifice, obedience and truth.
2. If we are financially secure, we should refuse to become complacent and deluded by the myth of self-sufficiency rather we should use our resources to help others and advance God’s Kingdom and
3. We should be involved in businesses that provide worthwhile products or services- not just things that feed the world’s desires.
