It was Suzzanah Wesley that said “Only one life, it will soon be over. Only remembered by what they have done.” What do you want to be remembered for when you are long gone from this world? Let your answer be what influences how you live every day. For example, Edward Crosby “Ned” Johnson 3rd who recently passed is remembered as a curious mind, an innovative spirit and a generous heart. Edward was an American billionaire businessman who owned Fidelity Investments and Fidelity International. Recently, I visited Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton South Africa where I saw four interesting statutes of Madiba including the six-metre-high brown one. Thinking about those statutes and other monuments and installations to remember the life of Africa’s greatest leader, I cannot but not conclude that it matters greatly for us to leave a meaningful and lasting legacy. Back to my question, what do you want to be remembered for? You don’t have to be an influential leader or a wealthy person to live your legacy, you only need to follow the example of the greatest man that ever lived. Jesus taught us to have a sense of purpose, to be humble, to be compassionate, to love all people and to sacrifice for others. So, if we actually start following Christ, we will leave behind a meaningful and lasting legacy.
