Michael Saylor is one of the entrepreneurs I admire. Recently, he spoke about how he plans to distribute his wealth after his death. Interestingly, Michael is not married, doesn’t have children, and doesn’t seem to plan to. While we may not know his reasons for choosing not to marry, it’s clear that he’s content and living a fulfilling life on his own terms.
If you find yourself at an age where society expects you to be married and have children, remember that you don’t have to conform to these expectations. Marriage should be something you pursue because you genuinely desire it and have found the right person—not simply because it’s what others expect of you. In fact, it’s far better to remain single than to marry the wrong person.
The Bible gives us examples of saints who lived fulfilling lives without marriage, such as Apostle Paul, Barnabas and Sister Phoebe. On the other hand, saints like Peter, James, Aquila and Priscilla, and Philip the Evangelist were married. The key is that they all served God wholeheartedly, regardless of their marital status.
Whether you are married or unmarried, wealthy or struggling, highly educated or less so, what matters most is serving God joyfully. Keep praying, and trust that God’s will for your life will be fulfilled in this lifetime before you stand before Jesus face to face.
