South Africa’s second-largest retail pharmacy chain, Dis-Chem announced few days ago that her revenue grew by 16.3% to about $1 billion despite Covid19 lockdown and July’s civil unrest. One of the reasons the company gave for its performance was a rapid adaption to the e-commerce environment as a result of Covid-19 initial lockdown. Instead of the company complaining about the lockdown, it used it to accelerate its digital advance by as much as five years. The most important lesson I learnt from Dis-Chem’s success story is that when we live or operate in a turbulent environment, it is easier for us to succeed if we are innovative and quickly adapt to changes happening around us. More than innovation and adaption to change, our greatest resource as men or women of faith is abundant strength from God not only to help us as individuals to succeed but also to help others to succeed as well. “For we can do everything through Christ, who gives us strength.”
“The things we fear most in organizations – fluctuations, disturbances, imbalances – are the primary sources of creativity.” Margaret J. Wheatley
“Quite simply, our hope for spiritual safety during these turbulent times is to turn our minds and our heart to Jesus Christ.” M. Russell Ballard
