Genuine spiritual mourning for sin is a divine work orchestrated by the Holy Spirit. Repentance is not a common occurrence but a precious flower nurtured through God’s supernatural grace. It is always the outcome of His supernatural intervention. If you find even a single trace of detestation for sin within you, recognize that it’s a gift from God.
True repentance is intrinsically intertwined with Jesus. To truly repent, we must fix our gaze solely upon Christ, viewing our sins through the lens of His love. This sorrow for sin is also profoundly practical, guiding us to exercise caution in our words and actions each day. We become vigilant not to cause offense or harm to others. Each night, we humbly confess our shortcomings, and every morning, we earnestly beseech God to safeguard us from transgressing against Him.
“Godly sorrow brings repentance.” 2 Corinthians 7:10
