Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and former president of Y Combinator has introduced a new free- cryptocurrency called Worldcoin, that will be distributed fairly to as many people as possible. But, this is the catch. A new device called the Orb, will capture the image of the eyes of an interested individual after which it will be converted into a short numeric code, making it possible to check whether the person has signed up already. If not, they would receive their free share of Worldcoin. The company said the orb will not store any biometrics, but will use an irreversible function to convert them into a hash that is unique for every person. Critics of the project however believe that venture capitalists are just interested in harvesting biometrics of poor people and profit from it. 150,000 people so far have agreed to have their eyeball scanned in exchange for free crypto already. Would you agree to have your eyeball scanned for free crypto? I wouldn’t. There are certain things we should not do because of money. This is one of them!
