I have been thinking recently about the Biblical Joseph of Arimathea. Joseph was wise, wealthy and a faithful follower of Christ who exemplifies the type of person I have always aspired to be. His life teaches me that I can be highly successful in every aspect of life and at the same time serve the Lord enthusiastically. Joseph who along with another secret disciple of Christ, Nicodemus, risked his reputation to bury Jesus, is reported in non-canonical accounts to have taken the gospel to Britain. “English legend also claims that Joseph accompanied the Apostle Phillip, Lazarus, Mary Magdalene and others on a preaching mission to Gaul. Lazarus and Mary stayed in Marseilles, while the others travelled north.” It was from there he was sent to establish Christianity in Britain. Joseph was also reported to have made his wealth in the metals trade, and that he might have travelled to Britain in the past before since there was an abundance of high-quality lead and tin mines in the Island of Britain… As you too reflect on the life of this man, let his life teach you or remind you that wise men (women) follow Jesus, risk their reputation for Him and spend their resources for what pleases Him. Let’s do that and we will shine like the star forever.
